The WASH Project Manager will lead the implementation of Water,
Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives as part of a comprehensive
project funded by ECHO. This role is designed to strengthen sustainable
WASH services and enhance hygiene practices within Northern Mozambique,
an area deeply impacted by ongoing conflicts and recurrent natural
disasters. The coordinator will be instrumental in addressing urgent
WASH needs, leveraging innovative solutions to promote resilience and
well-being among affected communities. This position is crucial not only
for immediate relief but also for laying the groundwork for long-term
sustainability in the region’s WASH infrastructure and services.
Habilidades Requeridas
- ducation: Master’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Public Health, International Development, or related fields.
- Experience: At least five years of robust experience in WASH project
management in humanitarian settings, with specific experience managing
ECHO-funded projects.
- Technical Skills: Expertise in advanced WASH technologies, project
management software, and GIS tools. Familiarity with SPHERE standards
and other international humanitarian guidelines.
- Languages: Fluency in English required. Additional Portuguese and local language skills are beneficial.
- Personal Qualities: Strong leadership, analytical skills, resilience
to stress, adaptability to changing scenarios, and capability to manage
multi-disciplinary teams in multicultural settings.

- Develop and execute WASH strategies that align with the
humanitarian-development nexus, focusing on sustainable and integrated
WASH services.
- Lead project activities, ensuring compliance with ECHO funding requirements, and Ayuda en Acción’s strategic objectives.
- Coordination with other parts of the consortium for joint
implementation of activities in areas identified by the RRM mobile team.
- Writing periodic reports on the progress of project activities,
complying with ECHO requirements and Ayuda en Acción’s strategic
objectives.
Technical Leadership and Innovation:
- Implement cutting-edge WASH technologies and approaches tailored to the needs of conflict-affected areas.
- Oversee the rehabilitation of water points, the construction of
gender-segregated, accessible emergency latrines, and ensure water
quality testing and monitoring adheres to international and local
standards.
Stakeholder Engagement and Sector Coordination:
- Engage with community leaders, government officials, and other NGOs to ensure cohesive and community-driven WASH interventions.
- Actively participate in WASH clusters and coordination meetings to
advocate for the community needs and share insights from project
implementations.
Capacity Building and Sustainability:
- Enhance the capability of local WASH committees through targeted
training sessions on infrastructure maintenance and hygiene promotion.
- Foster community ownership of WASH facilities to ensure long-term sustainability and resilience.
- Ability to manage, coordinate and train a project dedicated team.
- Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL).
- Employ robust MEAL practices to track the effectiveness of WASH
interventions, making data-driven adjustments to project strategies.
- Document lessons learned and best practices to guide future WASH interventions and contribute to the sector’s knowledge base.
Financial Management and Compliance:
- Manage the project budget meticulously, ensuring all expenditures
align with ECHO guidelines and Ayuda en Acción’s financial policies.
- Monitor and report financial activities regularly to ECHO and other stakeholders.
Offer Conditions
Start Date: Immediate.
Duration of contract: Temporary, one year.
Work Schedule: Full-time.
Location: Pemba – with travels to the field in Cabo Delgado when needed.
Compensation: Commensurate with Ayuda en Acción’s remuneration policy.
